Bill Baker Barr is very active in the midwest rock collecting community. He spends a lot of weekend and vacation time at quarries, mines, and roadcuts pounding rocks for pleasure. All this is in search of mineral samples, crystals, fossils, and gemstones to add to his "out of control" collection.
Most rock collectors are eager to share their interest and enthusiasm, and Bill is no exception. He leads field trips for all of his clubs, plus hosting other groups as guests. Last year, he started a geology club at his son Jesse's school (Eberwhite Elementary), which meets once a week before school. He has also done about 40 programs on rocks and earth science at schools all over the area. His latest effort was organizing safety training sessions for rockhounds with the Ohio Division of Mining & Reclamation. 70 people attended the first session, learning to be safe collectors and earning certificates that will make it easier to gain access to working mines and quarries for field trips.
